OUR STORY
Established in 1999, by Jane Johnson, Launceston Youth Theatre Ensemble is a respected youth theatre company now under the ownership and artistic direction of respected and experienced educator Mandy Gibson.

LYTE believe the arts are essential to education and well being, and vital to a thriving and empathetic community.
LYTE specialise in contemporary and classic theatre, and have introduced thousands of young Tasmanians to the transformative world of theatre. Our company is known for its high quality skills development programs and MainStage productions and creating theatre experiences that resonate with young audiences and families.
LYTE’s guiding mission is to nurture young people’s innate creativity and their passion for the arts, and through building confidence, courage and connection to their own unique selves LYTE strive to help young people realise their full potential.
LYTE is now structured in six company levels; Little Lytes, Pre-Junior, Junior, Middle, Senior and Adult. Our program content and productions are specifically catered for the target age group; providing young people with creative experiences rich in process, story, and theatre craft, and with essential skills for life. We value the experience of process and learning as well as performance outcomes.
Embracing awareness of mindfulness and wellbeing is also very important within the culture of LYTE; our programs encourage students to be present in the moment, whilst also thinking beyond themselves and their comfort zones.
LYTE is recognised by both the community and arts industry for producing skilled, generous and professionally minded young actors. LYTE is able to offer valuable connections and perspective on further arts training and the industry. We have seen a significant number of LYTE alumni move into tertiary arts training at respected institutions including NIDA, WAAPA, VCA, and UTAS, and who are now professional arts practitioners.
Being a member of LYTE is a fun, challenging and rewarding journey; you will develop your creativity, confidence and communication in an environment where you feel nurtured and challenged and where true friendships are made. You will recognise the vital role artists play in our society and the intrinsic importance of people connecting through story and theatre. LYTE will help you find your voice as an artist and the courage to share it
