General Enrolment Information

What else do I need to know?

Please read the information below and contact us with any questions?

Comfortable clothing and a drink needed for classes, unless told otherwise by your director.

Fees

LYTE tuition fees are based on approximately $15 an hour (with an annual admin levy of $25, which is paid once per year). Please note: a GST component of 10% is then added to our fees. It depends on the program as to how much the overall tuition fee is (each program has a different amount of workshop/rehearsal hours). The Production program is the most rehearsal hour intensive and, as it spans an equivalent of almost two school terms, is therefore a more expensive tuition fee. LYTE keeps other potential costs down by contributing considerable rehearsal hours for free and covering the lion's share of the cost of costumes.  You do not need to enrol for the whole year. Programme by programme is totally acceptable.

Costumes

LYTE will cover the bulk of costume expenses. We have a considerable costume and props store and can usually source most things from there. Actors may be asked to pay a portion of the cost of their costume, but this will only range from $10-$50 (depending on the specificity of costuming)

Commitment

Producing quality theatre and developing a cohesive ensemble with children takes time. We offer a number of weekend workshops within most programmes to allow for intensive rehearsal in a longer time period. The MainStage production schedule is our busiest as we move towards rehearsals in the theatre in lead up to the season. LYTE’s schedule ensures our young actors are confident, fully prepared and proud of the theatre they are offering our community. LYTE’s weekend rehearsals are generally held on a Saturday, which we understand can be a busy activity day for families. LYTE needs students committed to our schedule but will also work with you to try and accommodate your child’s other activities and passions. Please talk with us about how we can work together to juggle everything and ensure your child can effectively participate in LYTE.

Studios and Carparking

LYTE runs workshops at Queechy High School (161 Penquite Rd, Norwood) from studios in the Performing Arts Centre (B Block) and the “Back Terrapin” (building behind the Performing Arts Centre). LYTE families are welcome to park in the visitors car park or temporarily stop your car alongside the red bollards (please note: the bollard area is for drop off and pick ups only, please don’t remain parked here). Please do not enter the staff car park as parking in this area is prohibited.

Riverside workshops are conducted at Riverside High School (354 West Tamar Highway) in the Drama Hall towards to rear of the school. There is a large carpark on the left after entering the school and limited parking outside of the Drama Hall.
